Dr Gie Vandehult, Sara Lindahl, Dr Bertil Andersson and Dr Henrik Gllamder examined over 100 patients and performed 60 operations in 10 days. Most of the patients, aged between 5 and 83, had travelled very long distances on foot to have their hand surgery problems, burns, salivary and soft tissue tumours, large atheromas and lipomas treated.
These were moving encounters with people who were able to cope better with their very difficult living conditions thanks to the healing or at least alleviation of their illnesses. The collaboration with our friends and colleagues at Mua Mission Hospital (thanks to Kingsley, Geoffrey and Janko!) is full of trust and characterised by mutual learning.
Gie and I also had the opportunity to meet the 4 religious sisters from Kenya who will be taking over from Father Isaac Mwazambumba in about 2 months time. It was a very interesting start to discussing and achieving strategic measures and improvements together in the future: economic independence, medical attractiveness and staff stability.
